Kovu is the son of Zira, the younger brother of Nuka and Vitani, the adopted son of Scar, the deuteragonist of The Lion King II: Simba's Pride and a guest character in its midquel series The Lion Guard. He is also the half-brother of Nuka and Vitani.
Since Kovu was not blood related to Simba, should he and Nala have a daughter he would become the next king easy. Nuka was alitte upset that he never even had the opportunity to become the heir. For reasons none of the lionesses could find out, not even Zira herself, Scar found Nuka not worthy to be his successor.

Zira was the mother of Nuka, Vitani, and Kovu and the leader of Scar’s followers The Outsiders. Her youngest son, Kovu, was Scar’s chosen heir (despite not being related to Scar), and Zira dreams that he could one day kill and usurp Simba.

Like Zira, she is destructive and traitorous, wanting to engage Kovu in a play fight as soon as Zira drops him. Unlike Nuka, she doesn't seem to care too much about Kovu being the Chosen One, despite not being Scar's son, even though Zira has taught her to be very obstreperous, hateful, mean, and envious.
As we all know in The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, Kovu is Scar's adopted son. But I have a theory that Kovu isn't related to Zira, but rather her and Scar's adopted son. I have a fan theory that Vitani may not also be related to Scar and Zira, but Nuka would be the only lion who's the biological son of Scar and Zira.
Her coat is a perfect blend of the colors of both her mother's and father's pelts, with a cream underbelly, muzzle, and paws. Her eyes are amber-brown and her nose and inner ears are purplish pink. She has narrow dark brown eyebrows, similar to Nala's. The tuft at the end of Kiara's tail is a soft brown hue.

No. Scar is NOT Kovu's father. Kovu said so in the movie. Same with Nuka. Besides, Kovu's mane is dark brown while Scar's is black. Kovu's father is more likely a rouge lion. I think he was his Step-father, but I'm not too sure. That's what I think. Scar is not Kovu's father. Nuka says that Kovu is no Scar's son. People think Kovu is hot because the animators said so. A recent example indeed. Nick Wilde is kind of the Kovu for this generation - in terms of kids growing a crush on them. I'll admit that Kovu and Nick share that "attractive aura" and do look really good. qQ5oQww.
