The parts specific to turbocharged engines are generally reliable on VWs and Audis. Early B8 A4s had a problem with the wastegate flapper that was corrected and warranty was extended. Frequent oil changes (shorter than Audi's 10k intervals) are highly recommended with all turbos. Even Audi's 1980s turbo engines are reliable.
A well designed turbo engines will be WAY MORE reliable than a bad engeneered NA. In addition to added complexity is added stress as well, a lot of additional heat in the cooling system and engine compartment and at 14.7 PSI you double the peak pressure inside the engine.
The new TT, a small, attractive sports car with a 180-horsepower turbocharged engine, was unveiled. Since its release in 2000, the TT has undergone three versions and numerous model years and has received positive consumer reviews. While some years received a lot of praise, others didn’t. Here are the Audi TT years to avoid.

Audi's engine reputation tends to be pretty spotty, but if you take care of the 4.2 FSI, you'd be surprised how long it'll go for. While it may not be as reliable as some engines, the 20V

In general, from the forums here though, I have never heard of catastrophic failures of any type with this engine. Reliability is on par or better than recent BMW 3s (their engine is an older model however), and is right out more reliable than Mercedes or Porsche (consumerreports). From what I see, the new Q5 (2018 onwards) has more problems overall than the prior generation (2011 to 2017), but I would not recommend a Q5 older than a 2016. Up to 2017, the 2.0T in the Q5 is a Gen-2. These engines have all the internal upgrades and improvements, and should be good for reliability. iwkkER.
